Prof. Ignacio Antón and Oscar de la Rubia

It is our honor to invite you to participate in the 14th International Conference on Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV-14) to be held in Puertollano, Spain. In the last decades, Concentrator Photovoltaic technology has demonstrated its ability to be a “short cut” to market for new achievements or breakthroughs in the development of high efficiency solar cells, and CPV holds the records for the highest efficiencies ever achieved by any solar technology at the cell, module, and system levels. Field experiences not only show outstanding high performances, but also that CPV technology is highly reliable and comparable to standard PV.

For the third time in its history, the CPV conference will be held in Spain, this time in the heart of Castilla La Mancha, a landscape known worldwide as the backdrop for Cervante’s Don Quixote de la Mancha. Today, La Mancha and particularly the city of Puertollano, one of the most important industrial cities of the area, is an example of transition from an economy highly dependent on fossil fuels to a land of opportunities for renewable energies. Puertollano’s economy was based on coal mining until the 40’s when a petrol refinery was established in the city. In the 90’s the city started a new phase focused on attracting the renewable industry and promoting research centers focused on solar photovoltaics, biofuels and hydrogen and becoming a reference in technology and research linked to new and green energy technologies. Curiously, the palace of congress La Central was an old thermoelectric plant, built in 1917 and recently reconverted for use as a conference center.

The Institute for Concentration Photovoltaics Systems (ISFOC) is one of those research centers established at Puertollano, as a result of a R&D plan developed by the Institute of Solar Energy (IES-UPM) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and promoted jointly by the Governments of Castilla La Mancha and Spain. ISFOC owns a 800 kW CPV power plant with different CPV technologies working since 2008, a success story and an important milestone in promoting the industrialization of CPV, and today a reference for demonstrating to the world the performance and reliability of the technology.

ISFOC and IES-UPM are joining forces to organize CPV-14 in April 16-18, 2018. Please mark the date in your calendar.
The important dates for the conference are already fixed:

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts: November 10, 2017
  • Notification of acceptance: January 19, 2018
  • Start of online registration: January 22, 2018
  • End of early bird discount: February 22, 2018
  • Deadline of full paper upload: April 13, 2018

More information will be provided via the newsletter and on this webpage.

We hope to preserve both the combination of excellent scientific quality with a friendly and dynamic atmosphere that has been the trademark of the previous 13 CPV-X conference. You will have the opportunity to discuss the progress in technology, market and financing aspects, and the challenges and future of CPV technology.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Puertollano in April 2018!
